Children’s moods are strongly affected by lighting. For some children it provides a calming, soothing effect and for others it acts as a stimulant.  Harsh lighting can often hurt the eyes of a person with autism.  Flickering, humming lights can be very distracting and sometimes painful. It’s often advised to use adjustable lighting in order to create a calming effect. Certain light levels and colors can be beneficial and the ability to control visual stimuli within the space is important. Creating a sensory room can aid to stimulate, develop and balance a person’s sensory system. Sensory rooms can include many equipment. They can be activated by switches, movement, sound or pressure, so that a child can learn about cause and effect.

Sensory LED Projectors provide captivating visual rewards, allowing creating different scenes, themes and effects to provide a development experience and bring sessions to life, to create a point of focus and interest, and to introduce colors, movement and stunning visual effects. They can be used to easily change the mood from stimulating and engaging - to a relaxing and calming environment, to prevent sensory overload. This is very useful to create an engaging and inclusive environment which promotes communication, connection and interaction - to a soothing and calming environment which allows anyone to escape from the pressures and noises in the ‘real world’.

Lighting is not a purely functional commodity and it can be something fun, creative and exciting within the home environment.  The colorful projections create a sensory calming experience and a creative focal point to captivate a child’s imagination. It can be used for children with sensory processing disorder, as they are able to gain a positive response to the color and movement, tracking the patterns that help with visual eye development.

The sensory lighting I have used at home is already benefiting my daughter, Mitra. The lights are absolutely fantastic. As soon as we started using them Mitra was taken with the warm glow; an emotional moment to see her so happy. She stands in front of the projected images every evening for about 30 minutes before bedtime. With her autism everything is repetitive, so she almost carries out the same activities each day. Ensuring Mitra’s sensory needs are met on a daily basis is so vital and it’s great that for a few moments in my daughter’s day-to-day life she can get happiness simply through lighting!
